UConn head coach Jim Mora, who has led the Huskies to back-to-back 9-win seasons, has found another gig. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Mora is leaving Storrs to become the head football coach at Colorado State.
Connecticut athletic director David Benedict said Mora informed him on Tuesday night that he had accepted the Rams’ head coaching job.
“We are grateful for Coach Mora’s contributions to UConn over the past four seasons. He took on the challenge of rebuilding our football program and delivered results that exceeded expectations,” Benedict’s statement reads. “Coach Mora brought energy and a winning culture back to UConn football and put our program back on the national stage.”
UConn (9-3) beat 2 ACC teams this year. Each of the Huskies’ 3 losses (Syracuse, Delaware, Rice) came on the road in overtime. Quarterback Joe Fagnano produced a 28:1 TD-to-interception ratio under Mora’s tutelage. Former Wisconsin wide receiver Skyler Bell, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, developed into one of the sport’s underrated stars.
Mora is 73-53 in 10 seasons (6 at UCLA, 4 at UConn) of college football. He heads to Fort Collins as Colorado State begins its transition to the Pac-12. The Rams, along with a host of other Mountain West schools and Texas State (Sun Belt), kick off their Pac-12 tenures in 2026. Colorado State (2-9, 1-6 MW) wraps up its 2025 season against Air Force on Friday afternoon (3:00 p.m. ET, FS1).
