ASU and Arizona were both in the newly revealed College Football Playoff rankings ahead of Friday’s Territorial Cup, checking in at No. 20 and No. 25, respectively.
The Sun Devils were No. 25 before their 42-17 win at Colorado on Saturday.
This is the first time Arizona has been ranked under head coach Brent Brennan, following consecutive wins over Colorado, Kansas, No. 25 Cincinnati and Baylor.
This Friday’s edition in the heated rivalry was already going to be the first in years where both teams had winning records, and now both enter the matchup inside the CFP rankings, with Big 12 title hopes still alive for ASU.
The last time both teams had numbers next to their names for the game was 2014, when Arizona was No. 11 and ASU was No. 13.
Three Big 12 teams were ranked ahead of them: No. 5 Texas Tech, No. 11 BYU and No. 13 Utah. None of those three play ranked opponents this week.
