ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The country’s first no-cost therapeutic cosmetology school for survivors of sex trafficking and those at risk has opened in Rochester.
Miss Julie’s School of Beauty celebrated the opening of its new location in Sibley Square with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon. The school aims to provide survivors with the skills needed to obtain a cosmetology license and achieve economic stability.
“This is a path to freedom with no strings attached. A path for a population that until now has had no path at all,” founder Julie Chapus said.
“Our students may have been handed a raw deal. But why must they be trapped in a cycle of dependence on a system when they can have a beautiful future waiting for them through Miss Julie’s School of Beauty?” she added.
