You’ve Gotta See Ozzy Trapilo’s Initial Week 12 Grade From PFF ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

On a day when Chicago Bears rookies were seen early and often, no one impressed me more than Ozzy Trapilo.

A second-round pick from the Bears’ 2025 NFL Draft class, Trapilo was thrust into the starting lineup at left tackle because Theo Benedet suffered an injury during the practice week that caused him to be unavailable for the team’s Week 12 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Benedet out and Braxton Jones still on injured reserve, it left Trapilo as the top option to start as the blindside protector for quarterback Caleb Williams. And while it was understandable to be filled with angst leading up to the game, Ozzy Trapilo put those concerns to bed with how he played against the Steelers.

Pro Football Focus gave Chicago Bears rookie offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo a dazzling grade in the Week 12 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12. Trapilo earned a 79.6 initial grade on Sunday, which was the second-best grade handed out from the Bears-Steelers game. I can’t imagine that a re-watch would result in his grade taking a serious hit. Even if it did, we saw with our own eyes how well he played. There is no taking that away from him (or us).

More from Ozzy Trapilo’s remarkable performance:

LT for Chicago has been a weak spot along a rebuilt front five this fall… but not today. Heck of an afternoon for rookie Ozzy Trapilo against a veteran Steelers front (41 pass pro snaps):• 1 pressure• 0 sacks• 0 QB hits~ 88.4 pass pro effectiveness grade

Please note that I did not make any caveats before laying out the tweet above. I’m not framing this as a remarkable performance considering the competition. The Steelers have a good pass rush and have steadily been a strong defensive force for most of my life as a football fan. I’m also not presenting the info above as a remarkable performance despite being pushed into the starting lineup. That was straight-up a good game from the Boston College product. And it has me thinking differently about his future.

Is Ozzy Trapilo a potential long-term left tackle option?

We have reached a potential turning point in the development arc of rookie offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo. Because if Trapilo can go from being pegged as a player who can only play right tackle to being a serviceable left tackle, it could open some things up for this front office.

Trapilo developing into a starting-caliber left tackle is the type of thing that could be a game-changer for the Bears’ upcoming offseason. And while I do not want to go down that rabbit hole just yet, I am suddenly thining about how there is a non-zero chance that Trapilo can use the final six games of the regular season (and some games in the playoffs?) to solidify his standing with the team. Should Trapilo prove himself to be a capable left tackle, it could open the Bears up to use 2026 NFL Draft picks and cap space on other positions — ideally on the defensive side of the ball.

To be clear, I know that one game does not a career make. There will be ups and downs for Ozzy Trapilo as he develops. Hence, I am not putting his name in ink on the starting line at left tackle just yet. His future is up-in-the-air, but a strong showing against Pittsburgh in Week 12 has me open to the possibility that Trapilo could be the Bears’ long-term starting left tackle. Trapilo would need to stack a bunch of games like the one he just had in order to fully convince me. However, watching him play and seeing how he graded out in the metrics gives me hope that it could happen.
