The best supermarket winter boots according to a fashion editor ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

With temperatures suddenly plummeting, it’s officially time to put ballet flats, loafers and any other ankle-baring shoes to one side for the next few months. Keeping warm is the aim of the game throughout winter, but I’m here to tell you that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on style.

Winter boots are my favourite new season buy – aside from a new winter coat, of course – and I’ve been quite taken by every major boot trend I’ve seen on the autumn/winter 2025 runways. But, with only limited space in the cupboard under my TV (tell me you live in a London rental, without telling me) there’s only so many pairs I can add to my collection this year. And there’s one place I’ve started my search: the supermarkets.

The big players F&F at Tesco, Tu at Sainsbury’s and George at Asda (sadly, Nutmeg at Morrisons doesn’t do footwear), have wowed me this season. Dominating their physical aisles and online stores with iterations of some of the biggest winter boot trends, I’ve been taken by their styles and price tags – exactly what I’m after in the midst of attempting to get a mortgage.

So, let’s talk about trends. Western is still key, and cowboy boots are the easiest way to introduce the style to your new season wardrobe. Tesco has a burgundy pair (the colour of the moment), Sainsbury’s have gone for a pair in ruched brown suede, and Asda is offering some in a shade of “look-at-me” silver that’s just asking for compliments.

If you’re tempted to walk on the wild side, you’ll find the animal prints that dominated the Fendi, Tod’s and Khaite catwalks available, too. If you prefer something a little more tame, the supermarkets have also taken a cue from Miu Miu’s case for statement buckles and timeless pairs of knee-highs.

No matter your style, plans, or in my case, space in your shoe cupboard, these are the supermarket winter boots that are as hard to resist as the Christmas chocolate aisle.

Lace up ankle boots, £30, F&F

There’s a side zip, so no faffing around with laces when you dash out in the morning

A pair of chunky boots will never fail when it comes to winter dressing. Practical, sturdy and reliable for all those cold-weather walks, this lace-up pair is bound to be worn on heavy rotation all season with everything from jeans and jumpers to tights and kilt skirts (a mini trend to look out for). The best part? There’s a side zip, so no faffing around with laces when you dash out in the morning.

Faux leather Western inspired cowboy boots, £32, F&F

I appreciate the easy-to-walk-in heel height of this pair

As the colour du jour for winter, oxblood boots are an easy way to dip your toe into a trend without updating your entire wardrobe. I appreciate the easy-to-walk-in heel height of this pair, the mid length instead of knee-high and that they’ll only add £32 extra to my weekly food shop! Tip: wear with a suede jacket and leather trousers to fully embrace the cowgirl trend.

Faux leather biker boots, £32, F&F

I love the look of these chunky boots juxtaposed with a floaty dress

Buckles, buckles and more buckles! According to the Miu Miu AW25 runway, it’s set to be a key detail over the coming months and the supermarkets have paid attention. F&F’s biker boots are bound to sell out pretty quickly, and I love the look of these chunky boots juxtaposed with a floaty dress or simply worn with a midi skirt, cosy jumper and a puffer coat. They’re so easy to style.

Brown suede ruched detail Western boots, £60, Tu

Invest in a good suede spray to protect them against the elements

This texture has taken over the fashion world, and I’m embracing the 70s boho nod it gives to my outfits. This real suede pair (yes, for only £60!) with its western Cuban heel and slouchy design – as seen at Isabel Marant and Louis Vuitton shows – is ticking off every trend in one fell swoop. Want to keep these looking chic? Invest in a good suede spray to protect them against the elements.

Sand faux suede long length boots, £38, Tu

These tall boots with a modest heel height will compliment every outfit

If you don’t want real suede, there are good faux pairs to pick up on your whizz around the supermarket. These tall boots with a modest heel height will compliment every outfit – from a knit co-ord to under a silky slip dress for party season.

Leopard print pointed toe heeled boots, £21 (was £30), Tu

Working as a neutral, they’ll surprisingly go with more outfits than you might think

The autumn/winter 2025 runway confirmed animal-inspired boots are one of the biggest trends to note. To keep it classic, opt for leopard print with these Tu heeled ankle boots. Working as a neutral, they’ll surprisingly go with more outfits than you might think.

Burgundy pointed toe kitten heel boots, £17.60 (was £22), George

This sleek patent pair will look perfect poking out from underneath a pair of baggy jeans

Shoe boots are officially back after Celine put them on the catwalk this season. I have slightly bigger calves, so I tend to prefer a shorter ankle boot which is likely to fit better. This sleek patent pair will look perfect poking out from underneath a pair of baggy jeans thanks to that pointed toe and sculptured heel that makes them look way more expensive than they are.

Silver Western style heeled ankle boots, £17.60 (was £22), George

This pewter, metallic shade will be a talking point every time you wear them

Yep, another pair of Western boots to prove they’re one of the most popular styles to invest in this year. This pewter, metallic shade will be a talking point every time you wear them. I would use this heeled style from George to liven up my trusty jeans, the knit dress I dig out every winter, or even as an alternative party season shoe instead of tottering around in spindly slingbacks.

Chocolate brown high leg biker gripped sole boots, £25.60 (was £35), George

The gripped sole will make sure they’re practical for all UK feather forecasts

As the shade to wear for coats, bags, knitwear and, of course, boots, there’s no shortage of this rich, glossy hue this season. I’d wear these brown buckled biker boots with a funnel neck jacket, wool midi skirt and super cosy socks. The knee-height will keep your legs warm, while the gripped sole will make sure they’re practical for all UK feather forecasts.
