India missed their skipper, Shubman Gill, in the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as they played with just 10 batters across both innings of the game. Gill was then declared injured and sent back to Mumbai. Nitish Kumar Reddy was called in as his replacement.
The neck spasm first came to notice when Gill, having hit a fine sweep off Simon Harmer, immediately clutched his neck, and the physios came in only to take him out of the field. He was then also hospitalised at the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata.
"Gill has been given an injection to alleviate his symptoms and will need a period of rest before starting rehab, training and skill work. There is every chance he could also be doubtful for the T20I series,” the BCCI source said, as reported by PTI.
Shubman Gill might miss the T20I series as well
After the PTI reports claim an extended period of absence and then suggest a rehab for Shubman Gill, it can be assured that he is most likely to miss the T20I series, which is set to start next month on the 9th of December.
Will Sanju Samson be promoted back to his opening spot if Gill misses out on the South Africa T20Is?
If the Indian captain misses out on the T20I series against South Africa, which starts on the 9th of December, Sanju Samson might be citing this as the biggest opportunity to return to the top of the batting order.
The South Africa T20Is might be an interesting grab for Abhishek Sharma's opening partner.
