Tre Jones received one of the NBA’s highest in-season honors on Friday.
The league officially announced that the Chicago Bulls’ guard is the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award Winner for the month of October. Jones now joins a long list of recent Bulls who have received the acknowledgement for their above-and-beyond effort put into the Chicago community. Ayo Dosunmu, DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso have each been given the award over the last few seasons.
Jones will be recognized for his work ahead of the Bulls’ NBA Cup matchup with the Miami Heat on Friday night. The league is also set to donate $20,000 to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research in Jones’ honor.
The 25-year-old is receiving the award, in part, because of his role at the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research Chicago Epicurean gala and auction. Jones served as a co-host for the event, which raised $1.13 million. Debbie, Tre’s mother, is a breast cancer survivor, and she has served as the motivation behind Jones’ efforts.
But Jones’ community work didn’t stop there. He participated in the Susan G. Komen VIPink campaign, partnered with the Obama Foundation’s Brotherhood Rising Program, played a part in the Bulls and BMO’s Spotlight Business Program, advocated for climate adaptation initiative Adapt2win, and also continued to serve on the board of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition. Talk about using your platform for good!
Jones has only been in Chicago since February of this year, but he has clearly gone out of his way to make his presence felt in a meaningful way. All things considered, with a new three-year contract under his belt, it wouldn’t be surprising if another Community Assist award is headed his way in the future.
Congrats to Tre Jones!
