ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The beautiful sunshine and blue sky we saw on Thursday fade on Friday as a cold front approaches. Temperatures will drop into the lower 30s early Thursday night, then climb after midnight as clouds thicken. Friday will see a mostly cloudy sky, but aside from a stray shower, most of the day should remain dry. Temperatures climb to near 50 degrees ahead of that cold front.
The weekend will start off with cooler air following our cold front, with highs in the lower 40s. This shouldn’t be cold enough, and the air should be dry enough to prohibit any lake response, other than more clouds than sunshine. A warm front lifts through the region on Sunday. While it will be moisture-starved, there’s the slight chance we could see a rain or wet snow shower. But we’re going with a mainly dry weekend.
That warm front will push us into the 50s for early to mid next week. That means it’ll be warm enough for any precipitation for holiday travel ahead of Thanksgiving to fall in the form of rain. We do have some rain showers in the forecast both Tuesday and Wednesday, before much colder air begins to flood in on or just after Thanksgiving. With it still being a week away, timing of the cold air remains in question, but there are growing signs that people travel after Thanksgiving may be faced with some lake effect snow.
