ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A police pursuit of two people police say stole from the Marshalls store on East Ridge Road in Irondequoit ended in Rochester, when the suspects’ vehicle crashed into a tree.
Irondequoit Police responded to Marshalls on Wednesday evening, Nov. 19, for the larceny in progress — and according to Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters, the suspects and their vehicle were well known to police and to the store’s Loss Prevention department, as they had stolen from Marshalls several times over the past few weeks.
The vehicle drove off down East Ridge Road and would not pull over for police. The pursuit went through all parts of Irondequoit, including Route 590, and police made several unsuccessful attempts to stop the car with spike strips. Police eventually chased the vehicle over the O’Rourke bridge into the city of Rochester, and the suspects hit a tree near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Harding Road.
Austin Scaife, 45, was charged with petit larceny — though Peters said that charge may change to grand larceny once all the stolen goods are added up by Marshalls Loss Prevention. Juanita R. Monahan, 56. of Rochester was charged with unlawful fleeing, unlicensed operation and other traffic charges. Peters said more charges are likely from the previous thefts.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Rochester Police Department and Rochester Fire Department assisted the Irondequoit police.
