Jon Sumrall’s meeting with Florida to discuss the Gators’ vacant head coaching job has been called off, and the current Tulane head coach is removing his name from the list of candidates in Gainesville, according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos on Wednesday afternoon.
Just a few hours earlier on Wednesday afternoon, On3’s Zach Abolverdi had reported that Florida was set to meet with the 43-year-old Sumrall about bringing him in to replace the fired Billy Napier. But now it appears that meeting won’t happen and Sumrall won’t be among those considered for the Florida coaching position.

Tulane is poised right now to make the Playoff, but amid all of that success Sumrall is also being mentioned for a lot of the current Power 4 coaching vacancies.
Florida appeared to be 1 of those positions that Sumrall was in the mix for, but Wednesday’s latest reported developments now suggest otherwise.
Before he got to Tulane, Sumrall was the head coach at Troy for 2 seasons, winning the Sun Belt Conference title in both of those years.
