We are almost a month into the Ivy League Dual Meet Showdowns, and this week of meets saw a few surprising finishes, as the leaderboards got shaken up a little bit.
Coming into the weekend the Princeton men and women were leading the rankings at 2 – 0. After last weekend’s meets, the Princeton men maintained their position at the top, but the Harvard women have overtaken Princeton, improving their record to 3 – 0 while Princeton still sits at 2 – 0.
These teams will likely trade the lead back and forth a few times over the course of the season with the championship ultimately being decided at the Harvard-Princeton-Yale meet at the end of January.
The weekend started with a dual meet between the Princeton and Columbia men and another dual meet between the Brown and Yale men. Princeton came out on top after they won every single event except the final relay, which they would have won if they hadn’t been disqualified.
The Tigers also broke three school records with Mitchell Schott swimming 8:47.46 in the 1000 freestyle, the 200 medley relay team of Yanning Zhang (21.53), Keian Lam (24.02), Logan Noguchi (20.28), and Patrick Dinu (18.87) swam a new school record time of 1:24.70. Aidan Wang also set a school record on the 1-Meter diving board.
The Yale men beat the Brown men 193-107 to improve their record to 1-0 before their dual meet with Columbia on Saturday. Brown dropped to 1 – 2.
The Bulldogs beat Columbia as well, setting five new records at the Lions’ pool.
200 medley relay- 1:26.50 (Lars Kuljus, Charlie Egeland, Nick Finch, Daniel Nankov) 200 free- 1:34.44, Noah Millard 50 free- 29.71, Nick Finch 500 free- 4:20.05, Noah Millard 200 IM- 1:46.92, Kevin LiThe Brown men and women raced Penn on Saturday, with Penn coming out on top of both meets. The men’s meet saw just 13 points separating the men’s teams with Penn scoring 157 to Brown’s 143.
The weekend wrapped up with double dual meets between Dartmouth, Harvard, and Cornell. These meets saw the Dartmouth pool record board get rewritten for the 2nd weekend in a row with six men’s and four women’s records falling.
Ultimately, the Harvard men and women swept their meets while the Dartmouth women beat Cornell, and the Cornell men came out on top.
