The Crimson Tide returned to Coleman Coliseum Monday for its salute to service game against Alabama A&M, winning 66-43 for its fourth consecutive home win victory.
Leading up to the game, the team partnered with ROTC on campus and spent time practicing with them.
Monday’s game, being dedicated to past and present service members, made the game “easy,” guard Jessica Timmons said.
“They’re fighting for someone next to them and saving their lives,” Timmons said. “All we have to do is play for the person out there next to us.”
Alabama ended the first half with a 36-24 lead. Turnovers during the first half netted 13 of the team’s total points, a noticeable step-up in defense for the Crimson Tide from past games. In the team’s season opener against Stetson, the defense seemingly fell through and allowed the Hatters to put up 73 points.
Alabama’s ability to score quickly after gaining possession of the ball was also on full display Monday, with 14 points being put up on fast breaks throughout the game. This allowed little time for the Bulldogs to put up a fight.
Overall, the Crimson Tide limited A&M’s points per possession to a dismal .67.
“You can’t always control if your shots are going in, but you can always control how hard you play on the defensive end and understand it’s not always just about being undisciplined,” head coach Kristy Curry said.
Alabama started the third quarter strong, keeping the Bulldogs away from the basket for the first four and a half minutes while also managing to put up 5 points.
Since the Stetson game, Alabama has yet to allow another team to hit the 50-point mark. The streak continued Monday night as the Crimson Tide put the Bulldogs in multiple scoring droughts lasting over four minutes, limiting A&M’s ability to put points on the board.
Alabama ended the game 66-43, marking its fourth victory in a row at home.
“I don’t really think about being 4-0,” Curry said. “I just think about how we can get better from today? What can we do better as a staff? What can they do better?”
Alabama will return to Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday, where the team will take on Samford. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, and the game can be streamed on SEC Network+.
