Two Chicago suburbs were featured prominently in a new holiday rom-com released over the weekend — and film buffs might recognize one of the locations from another holiday classic.
The new movie is called “Exes of Christmas Past” and it centers on an “ambitious hotel manager who returns to her family’s B&B for Christmas to find all three of her high school exes staying there.”
The main B&B featured in the film is the Cherry Tree Inn B&B in Woodstock, which many may recognize as the same hotel from “Groundhog Day.”
Other scenes in the holiday flick were filmed in another Chicago suburb, with two city spots also making the cut.
Libertyville was used for much of the film, including spots like Conscious Cup Coffee Roasters, Firkin Alley, JC Licht Benjamin Moore Paint & Decor Store, Sweet Home Gelato and a historic home in the northern suburb.
“About Time Bookstore, As Above So Below, Edie Boutique and Marigold will also be featured, and residents will recognize many of the business owners who make cameos in the film,” a release stated.
In Chicago, The Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel and 221 Blu Bar & Lounge were also seen in the film.
The holiday movie stars Brittany Underwood and Alex Trumble, who are exes-turned-friends in real life, as well as several other Chicago cast members, including some notable faces from “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med.”
It was written and produced by husband-and-wife duo Jake Jarvia and Eliza Toser, who are from Chicago’s suburbs.
“Jake and I live in Gurnee and have enjoyed spending time in Libertyville with our daughter, so it was amazing to film in a community we know and love,” Toser said in a statement.
“We were fortunate to shoot at the Cherry Tree, which has such rich cinematic history,” Jarvi sadi. “We couldn’t have found better locations to bring this story to life, and we can’t wait to share the film with audiences this holiday season.”
“Exes of Christmas Past” will stream on Vizio, Tubi, Xumo Play, and Amazon’s “Always Christmas” FAST channel. It will debut on Prime’s Christmas in July 2026.
