An Israeli army unit advanced on the evening of Saturday, 15 November, north of the town of Khan Arnabeh (in Quneitra province, southern Syria), into the al-Hafair area, and arrested four people from the town, one of whom was released on Sunday.
Ahmad Abu Zain, an activist in the city of Quneitra (southern Syria), told Enab Baladi that al-Hafair has a small population and is administratively linked to Khan Arnabeh, adding that the Israeli force that raided it arrested four people from the al-Sayyid family while they were in one of the area’s farms.
According to Abu Zain, the detainees are Mohammad al-Sayyid, his son Kinan, Ali al-Sayyid, and a metalworker who repairs aluminum, Mahmoud al-Sayyid.
The media activist in Quneitra city, al-Haitham Zahir, told Enab Baladi that the Israeli force took the detainees toward one of the Israeli bases, and released Kinan al-Sayyid on the evening of Sunday, 16 November, while the other three remain in Israeli army custody.
One resident of Khan Arnabeh, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told Enab Baladi that the four men were working to repair a farm that Israeli forces had previously damaged, and were arrested at a checkpoint near the junction leading to Khan Arnabeh as they were returning.
Israel released Kinan al-Sayyid “because he is a minor,” while keeping those who are older in detention, according to the source.
The fate of the three men is still unknown, activists and residents in Khan Arnabeh said.
On Monday, 17 November, another Israeli force set up a temporary checkpoint on the Eastern al-Samdaniyah–Khan Arnabeh road in Quneitra province.
Activist al-Haitham Zahir told Enab Baladi that Quneitra city is witnessing a security alert today on the Syrian side, as the Internal Security Forces has erected checkpoints and deployed patrols in several towns, stopping and searching people at these points.
According to Zahir, Internal Security checkpoints have been set up in al-Heiran, Suweisa, Naba al-Sakhr, Um Batna, Jabba, Khan Arnabeh, al-Salam City (formerly al-Baath City), and al-Koum.
Similar arrest in Daraa
The Israeli army continues to detain three people from the town of Jamlah in western rural Daraa (southern Syria).
On 4 October, 17 Israeli armored vehicles stormed Jamlah, after which heavily armed soldiers entered the village and raided civilians’ homes.
Israeli forces arrested three men from the village, Mohammad al-Breidi, Mahmoud al-Breidi, and Mohammad al-Samouri, whose fate remains unknown at the time of writing.
Among the homes raided by the patrol was that of Mahna al-Breidi, whose son Mohammad was arrested. The patrol handcuffed his son’s friends who were spending the evening at the house, then brought in dogs to search for weapons but found none, according to what Mahna previously told Enab Baladi.
The Israeli force then confiscated three mobile phones from the house, in addition to a computer, and took his son away. Mahna said he has had no information about his son’s fate since.
In his earlier interview with Enab Baladi, al-Breidi appealed to both the Syrian government and international organizations to intervene immediately to clarify the fate of their sons.
Israeli forces continue their incursions and violations in the demilitarized zone, pushing into towns and villages in Daraa and Quneitra on an almost daily basis, opening fire and searching passersby and civilian homes.
Through its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, Syria has called in international forums on the Security Council to take “firm” action to stop Israeli practices in Syria, end its attacks, and prevent their recurrence.
In a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, held on 24 October, Olabi said the Israeli authorities must be compelled to withdraw their forces from Syrian territory, including the occupied Golan Heights and the areas they have recently entered, and to refrain from interfering in Syria’s internal affairs.
