Between the interception, fumbles and missed kick, there was a lot that went wrong for Alabama in its 23-21 loss to Oklahoma, but there was one consistent element to the game.
Tight end Josh Cuevas has become a go-to guy in the Crimson Tide offense, racking in a season high 80 yards on the night. This includes a 25-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter that brought Alabama within 3 points.
After what was a career night in the crimson and white, Cuevas gave his teammates all the praise for how he played.
“I’ve got to give credit to the rest of the offense,” Cuevas said. “I can’t get open unless the other guys clear it out for me.”
The star tight end not only praised his team, but showed confidence that they would get things turned around just as they did after the Florida State loss.
“We’re gonna grind hard,” he said. “We’re going to add it to the fuel to our fire for this upcoming week … I have no doubt that we’ll bounce back.”
Against Oklahoma, Cuevas led the team in receiving yards and was second to Germie Bernard in receptions with six; however, he only totaled 20 yards in the second half on one target. Getting Cuevas consistently involved looks to be a focus if the Alabama offense is going to become more consistent in the coming weeks.
Alabama will face Eastern Illinois next Saturday and then finish the season with the Iron Bowl in Auburn.
