Syria has handed over 17 Lebanese nationals to the competent Lebanese authorities after they were detained by the Internal Security Directorate in Tartous Province for entering Syrian territorial waters illegally aboard three boats.
The vessels were detected by Syrian Coast Guard patrols, which immediately moved to verify their identity and the reasons for their presence. Upon inspection, the boats were found to be used for fishing.
The official handover took place at the Arida border crossing, in direct coordination with Lebanon’s General Security Directorate, to facilitate the return of the boats and their occupants to Lebanese territory and transfer them to the appropriate authorities there. Syrian officials confirmed that the individuals received necessary medical care prior to their return and that their health conditions were checked to ensure their safety.
The International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Interior also followed up with Lebanese counterparts to ensure the repatriation process proceeded smoothly and securely.
