The first two days of the Swiss SC Swimming Championships have seen a few new National Record times as athletes gear up for the European Short Course Championships next month.

Athletes will be using this meet to earn their qualifying times for the Championships, and there were a number of new qualifying times as well over the first two days.

Day One Recap

Day one saw 19-year-old Angelina Patt swim 27.04 in the women’s 50 backstroke to break Nina Kost‘s 2018 Swiss record of 27.27. This is her first individual Swiss National Record.

Patt picked up another win in the women’s 400 IM, touching in 4:43.38 to come in nearly eight seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher, Lilla Hauer, who swam 4:51.35. Patt missed the European Championships qualifying time of 4:41.20 by just over two tenths.

Noe Ponti swam under the qualifying times in the men’s 50 free and 50 backstroke en route to event wins in both. In the 50 free, he swam 21.21 to come in three tenths under the qualifying time of 21.52. He holds the Swiss Record in the event at 21.18 from this meet last year.

In the 50 backstroke, he swam 23.32 for the win, six tenths under the 23.96 qualifying time. 2nd place finisher Roman Mityukov was also under the cut at 23.82.

Antonio Djakovic won the men’s 400 freestyle in 3:41.85, earning the qualifying time by just over two seconds.

The men’s 400 IM saw another qualifying time in the form of Marius Toscan’s 4:09.15. He came in three seconds under the cut of 4:12.17, and won the event by five seconds.

Women’s 400 free: Vanna Djakovic (SC Uster), 4:08.26 Men’s 200 breast: Gian-Luca Gartmann (SC Uster), 2:08.22 Women’s 200 breast: Kay-Lyn Lohr (SC Uster), 2:24.88 Men’s 100 fly: Leo Verschooten (SV Baar), 52.66 Women’s 100 fly: Gaia Rasmussen (Geneve Natation), 59.56 Women’s 50 free: Angelique Brugger (Swim Team Lucerne), 25.01

Day Two Recap

Day two saw a host of new qualifying times and another new Swiss record from breaststroker Mael Allegrini. He swam the 50 breast in 26.72 to come in eight hundredths under Martin Schweizer‘s 26.80 record from 11 years ago in 2014.

The 2nd place finisher in the event, Gian-Luca Gartmann tied the former record time, touching in 26.80. Both men swam under the EA Short Course qualifying standard of 26.92.

Noe Ponti won the men’s 200 free in 1:42.91, coming in under the qualifying time of 1:44.85 and missing the Swiss record of 1:42.47 by about half-a-second. The 2nd place finisher Balint Ashton and the 3rd place finisher Antonio Djakovic also swam qualifying times touching in 1:43.59 and 1:44.36 respectively.

Roman Mityukov followed up his silver medal in the 50 back with a gold in the 100 back, touching in 50.94 to earn another qualifying time and win the event by a second-and-a-half.

Angelina Patt continued to build on her strong performance from day one. She won the women’s 100 back in 58.75, only three tenths off the Swiss National Record time of 58.42, and she won the 100 IM in 1:00.41 to pick up new event qualifications in both.

Mael Allegrini won the men’s 50 breast in 26.72 and the 100 IM in 53.20, which were both European Champs qualifying times.

Ilan Gagnebin swam 1:55.01 in the men’s 200 fly for the win, and to undercut the qualifying time of 1:55.28 by just two tenths.

The last two events of the meet were the men’s 1500 free and the women’s 800 free. Paul Niederberger won the 1500 in 14:57.78 to earn a qualifying time by just over two seconds, and Vanna Djakovic won the women’s 800 in 8:33.56 to come in just four tenths under the qualifying time of 8:33.97.
