2025 GERMAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Thursday, November 13th – Sunday, November 16th Wuppertal, Germany SCM (25m) SwimSwam Preview Recap #1 Results25-year-old Angelina Köhler made some major noise on day two of the 2025 German Short Course Championships, racing her way to a new national record in the 50m butterfly.
After taking the 200m butterfly gold on day one, Köhler began day two with a stellar time of 25.31 to claim the top seed in the morning heats of the 50m sprint.
Her effort sliced .18 off the former German benchmark of 25.49 Aliena Schmidtke put on the books at the 2017 European Short Course Championships.
Entering this competition, Köhler’s lifetime best in the SCM 50 fly rested at the 25.70 put up at the 2023 edition of these championships. That means the 2024 world champion in the 100m fly hacked .39 off that PB to set herself up for success.
Köhler wound up adding slightly in the final but still grabbed the gold in a time of 25.42. That easily cleared the qualification standard of 25.70 needed to add the event to her line-up for this year’s European Short Course Championships next month in Lublin, Poland.
On her achievement, Köhler told the German Swimming Federation, “I know I can go even faster.
“In the long term, I want to break the 25-second barrier. Ideally, at the European Short Course Championships. I’ll definitely be going for it there, because my time is respectable in Europe.”
During day two finals, Köhler produced a mark of 1:58.13 to claim her first-ever national title in the women’s 200m freestyle.
