ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We started off with chilly air and some nice sunshine, but now the clouds are filling in, and while temperatures will rise all the way up to the mid 50s today, they’ll be accompanied by warm front showers that could get heavy at times. The timing for the arrival of rain is looking like the early to mid afternoon, and chances for rain will continue through the evening. A few tenths to half an inch is possible which will help fight the drought. Some thunder is also possible due to limited instability, but it will be sparse. Overall, this morning will be the quietest time of the weekend.
Tonight a cold front passes which will increase our wind speeds, bring our temperatures down, and cause some lake effect precipitation tomorrow. Sunday morning it will still be too warm for snow, but by the late morning the lake rain should turn to a wintry mix or snow. Winds will be out of the northwest gusting up to 25-35 MPH in most areas, with the lakeshore seeing the strongest gusts up to 40-45 MPH. Lake flake showers continue through Sunday, with the most falling southeast of Lake Ontario, but only minor accumulations expected. Temperatures will be in the 30s all day and fall throughout the day.
Sunday night through Monday morning the lake flake band will still be active, and if snowfall amounts look like they’ll be more than minimal, we’ll issue a Yellow Alert for Monday as it may impact the morning commute. However, accumulations still look minor as of right now. Tune back in for updates.
Tuesday is mainly dry, and we’ll have a break in the precip through midweek; our temperatures don’t get back to normal or above normal levels until the end of next week, at which point we’ll be tracking our next chances for rain.
