India cricket team captain Shubman Gill was forced to retire hurt on Day 2 of the IND vs SA 1st Test at Eden Gardens on Saturday. He swept the delivery over backward square but immediately felt the pain when he stood up again. Eventually, Gill was forced to retire hurt, handing India another blow.

Washington Sundar was the first batter to depart on Day 2 as he was caught out by Aiden Markram off Harmer for 29 runs. KL Rahul was the next batter to be sent back to the pavilion as he was caught out by Markram off Maharaj for 39 runs. The final wicket to fall before lunch was that of Rishabh Pant’s as the keeper-batter was sent packing for just 27 runs.
South Africa, bundled out for 159 in the first innings, thankfully, managed to take Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket before India finished Day 1 at 37/1. Earlier on Day 1, Jasprit Bumrah’s 16th five-wicket haul put India in the driver’s seat.
