In what will be the biggest trade before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, Mohammed Shami is likely to be traded to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Bought for INR 10 crore last year, the veteran pacer wasn’t as sharp as expected. Shami was woeful and was dropped by SRH. In the end, the pacer featured in just 9 matches and took 6 wickets at 56.16. The worst bit was that Shami went at 11.23 runs per over. Shami’s fitness was a concern as well.

While it wasn’t mentioned what the reason behind the trade was, one can speculate that fitness concerns of Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan could be the reason, with Lucknow not having an experienced and quality pacer in the team.

LSG has also decided to free up INR 27.25 crore by releasing Ravi Bishnoi, David Miller, Akash Deep, and Shamar Joseph. The two pacers didn’t play much. Meanwhile, Miller and Bishnoi had forgetful performances. Mayank won’t be released, and the Arjun Tendulkar trade with the Mumbai Indians (MI) is expected to go through as well.
Considering LSG have traded Shardul Thakur to MI already, they’ll have around INR 20 crore for the IPL 2026 auction.
