Windermere Lakers Aquatics’ Walter Zeman has verbally committed to the University of Michigan for the fall of 2026.
I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Michigan to continue my academic and swimming journey. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me along the way: God, my family, my friends, and all the coaches who have guided me throughout my swimming career, especially Coach Bowe and Coach Bell for their help and support. Zeman, a sprint free specialist, hails from Kissimmee, Fla., and represents Celebration High School in Celebration, Fla.
Zeman wrapped up his summer at the USA Swimming Futures Championships (LCM) in Ocala. His top finishes came in the 100 free, where he set a best time of 51.27 in the prelims and followed it up with a 51.32 clocking in the final to place 11th. He also finished 11th in the 50 free, clocking another best time of 23.22.
In March, Zeman competed at the Florida Senior Championships (SCY), which served to be one of his best outings. There, he set four lifetime bests that still stand today. He notched personal best swims in the 50 fly (22.60), 100 fly (50.53), 100 free (44.89) , and 200 IM (1:59.01).
Zeman also holds a notable best time in the 200 free of 1:41.63 from the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East in December.
He recently competed at the FHSAA 4A Region 2 championships, and will compete at the 4A state meet this weekend.
Best Times SCY:
50 Free: 20.36 100 Free: 44.89 200 Free: 1:41.63 100 Fly: 50.53 200 IM: 1:59.01Michigan finished as the runner-up to Indiana at last season’s Men’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships.
Based on Zeman’s best times, he would have finished 39th in both the 50 free and the 100 free, and 35th in the 200 free at those championships.
Zeeman has posted all of his best times within the last 12 months of competition, which shows him progressing at the right times.
In the span of a year, Zeman lowered his best time in the 100 free from 46.32 in March of 2023 to his current best of 44.89 in March of 2024.
His 50 free has a similar trajectory, dropping his best time from 21.24 in March of 2023 to his now best 20.36 from November of 2024.
Zeman joins Oliver Shao, Aiden Moy, and Lucas Young in the 2026 recruiting class for the Wolverines.
