Northwestern v. Duke
November 7-8, 2025 Norris Aquatics Center, Evanston, IL SCY (25 yards) Results Final Scores: Women– Duke: 192, Northwestern: 142 Men– Northwestern: 216, Duke: 118In a battle of swimming and smarts, Northwestern and Duke each came away with wins in Evanston. The Wildcat women of Northwestern walked away with a win over Duke, 192-142, while the Blue Devil men emerged victorious, 216-118.
Women’s Recap:
Duke opened the meet with a commanding win in the 400 free relay; the team of senior Tatum Wall (47.70), junior Ali Pfaff (48.64), senior Emily Gantriis (49.59), and freshman Heather White (48.29) combined for a pool record-breaking swim of 3:13.22.
Sophomore Kiera Lu earned a win on the boards, winning the 3-meter event with her final score of 330.00. Lu earned another victory on the boards, winning the 1-meter event with a score of 303.75.
Pfaff made easy work of the 100 back, notching a new pool record in a near three-second win, stopping the clock in 51.53. Pfaff continued to dominate with another pool record in the 200 back, clocking a near four-second win in 1:53.59.
Duke senior Kaelyn Gridley turned in the only sub-minute performance in the 100 breast, clocking 59.21 for a two-second win over the field. Gridley swam a season-best time in the 200 breast, clocking an NCAA qualifying time of 2:09.93 for the Duke win.
Senior Martina Peroni won the 200 fly for the Blue Devils with her final time of 1:57.28, marking her fastest time of the season.
Wall ran away with the 50 free, swimming her fastest time of the season in 21.93, swimming under the NCAA qualifying time. Wall got in on the pool record-breaking action with her win in the 100 free, touching in 48.09, a near half-second margin of victory over the field.
Duke continued to impress, setting another pool record in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Pfaff (24.81), Gridley (26.94), White (23.55), and Wall (21.43) came together in 1:36.73.
The pool records continued to come in bunches for Duke; Clare Logan (53.71), Gridley (58.50), White (52.61), and Wall (47.49) put together a winning 400 medley relay in 3:32.31.
White picked up the 100 fly win in 53.73, She was the only competitor under 5 seconds in the event.
Duke rounded out the meet with a sweep of the relays; Wall (22.29), Pfaff (22.64), Gantriis (22.31), and White (22.04) stamped the win for the Blue Devils in the 200 free relay in 1:29.28.
Northwestern still managed to snag a number of event wins in its effort against the Blue Devils.
Wildcats sophomore Zoe Nordman earned the first individual win of the meet for Northwestern, winning the 1000 free in a lifetime best effort of 9:44.60. Nordman later completed the distance sweep in the 500 free, swimming a season best 4:45.51, leading the 1-2-3 sweep for the Wildcats.
Sydney Smith clocked a season best 1:46.45 to win the 200 free for Northwestern. Smith also took a tightly contested win in the 200 IM, swimming a season-best time of 2:01.13, just two seconds over Peroni of Duke in 2:01.33.
Men’s Recap:
Northwestern managed to keep the Blue Devils at bay to earn the win at home.
Junior Adam Cohen kick-started the Wildcats’ win column with his performance on the 3-meter board, finishing with a winning score of 335.10.
Northwestern sophomore Josh Staples stormed to a lifetime best swim in the 200 free, clocking 1:36.28 to win by over three and a half seconds. Staples wrapped up his individual wins with his 200 IM win in 1:45.86.
Junior David Gerchik added another Wildcat win in the 100 back, touching over a half second ahead of the field in 47.53. Gerchik swam a season best that narrowly got him into winning position over Northwestern teammate Stuart Seymour (1:44.41) with his 1:44.27.
Wildcat junior Oliver Kos dominated the 200 fly, touching over two seconds ahead of the other competitors in 1:45.08. Kos made simple work of the 100 free, winning by over a full second in a lifetime best swim of 43.87.
Junior Stuart Seymour notched a pool record in his 50 free, swimming his fastest time this season in 19.59.
The Wildcat men added a relay win of their own; Gerchik (21.93), Staples (24.26), Seymour (20.84), and Connor Schuster (19.46) added up to 1:26.49 to take the 200 medley relay win.
Northwestern then dominated the 400 medley relay; Seymour (46.89), Staples (52.27), Schuster (46.64), and Kos (42.77) combined for an over six-second win in 3:08.57.
Junior Diego Nosack notched a six-second win of his own for Northwestern in the 500, turning in a time of 4:22.65.
Sophopmore Kyle Ly later doubled up on the Northwestern diving wins with a nailbitting win on 3-meter, scoring just .3 points better than Charlie Berman of Duke (381.23), with his final score of 381.53.
Schuster was also untouchable in the 100 fly, clocking 46.83, over a second ahead of the field.
The Wildcats closed things out with a 200 free relay; Schuster (19.80), Seymour (19.55), Kos (19.83) and Gerchik (20.01) put a stamp on Northwestern’s victory in 1:19.19.
Duke fired out the gates against the Wildcats; junior Miloe Shue (44.66), freshman Owen Waibel (44.00), freshman Charlie Kulp (44.05), and sophomore Colin Mikulecky (44.26) opened up the scoring with a 400 free relay win in 2:56.97.
Freshman Anderson Kopp picked up the first individual win of the meet for the Blue Devil men, swimming his fastest ever 1000 free in 9:12.74 to win the event.
Duke junior Jack Smith fought off a tightly contested 100 breast field to win in a season-best 54.14.
Freshman Raphael Wang notched a season-best time in his 200 breast winning effort for Duke in 1:56.82.
