Chicago Bears head coach spoke to the media today and delivered some refreshing news: he expects cornerback Jaylon Johnson to return this season.
CHGO’s Adam Hoge asked the Bears head coach about Jaylon Johnson and fellow injured cornerback Kyler Gordon:
“We should be able to get the back at some point at the end of the season here,” Johnson said. “But kind of to-be-determined on when those clocks will start ticking here. I just saw Jaylon in the weight room. He’s excited about where he is right now, and he’s hopeful he’ll be out on the practice field here in the near future.”

As Luis wrote earlier, Jaylon Johnson was spotted on social media in the weight room recently, but hearing his head coach confirm that a return down the stretch is in the works is music to the ears of Bears fans who have watched the Bears’ injury-ravaged secondary get tormented in recent weeks.
Johnson has been battling injuries all year, missing most of training camp before making his debut in Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Detroit Lions, where he re-aggravated the nagging groin injury that had kept him out to that point. Johnson was ruled “out indefinitely” in mid-September, then landed on IR shortly after that update.
Here’s what he said on 670 The Score in October after core muscle surgery:
“Everything went well, I had surgery two weeks ago, but I’m feeling good, moving around a lot better,” Johnson said. “Just looking forward to making the progress each and every week. No matter what happens, unless you suffer a very significant injury where you know your season is over, but for myself, the biggest thing for me is to get healthy as quick as I can. I’m not putting a time on anything, I’m not going to say I’ll be good in weeks or months, it’s just about going day-by-day. Clearly soft tissue injuries stem from other things a lot of the time, for me it’s trying to figure out where mine stem from.”
It’s also worth noting that Ben Johnson confirmed that Kyler Gordon’s IR stint will be a short-term one.
© Peter van den Berg-Imagn ImagesGordon was placed on injured reserve with a groin and calf injury in October and is eligible to return ahead of the Bears’ Week 12 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Johnson confirmed Gordon’s stay on IR would be a short-term one (the minimum is four weeks), I wouldn’t quite circle the Steelers game just yet.
Seeing Gordon return to practice and his 21-day window open is the next step, and likely the first step in Chicago’s secondary getting closer to full strength for the stretch run.
