2025 Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II State Championships
Nov. 7-8 Mesa, Arizona SCY (25 yards) Results: Girls; BoysLast year at the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II state championships, both the Desert Mountain girls team and the Catalina Foothills boys squad finished second.
This year, both programs were second to none.
The Desert Mountain girls captured their fifth state title in six years, while the Catalina Foothills boys won their first state championship since 2014 and their14th overall after a fourth-place finish two years ago and a runner-up finish last year.

It was a close finish, but Desert Mountain managed to reclaim its spot atop the state by finishing eight points ahead of runner-up Salpointe Catholic.
Rena Cheong was the biggest individual performer for Desert Mountain, winning the 100 breast in a personal best time of 1:05.69. She also swam anchor for the winning 200 medley relay team that clocked a time of 1:50.56. Maddy Fisher, Ashley Vertes and Kaleigh Mack were the other team members.
Salpointe Catholic won the other two relays, first when the team of Taylor Basken, Holland Nye, Morgan Maciullaa and Iza Palomarez won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:40.36.
The squad of Basken, Nye, Alice Roddy and Palomarez then won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:39.24.
The individuals winning multiple events were Flagstaff junior Victoria Core and McClintock junior Yana Stozkovs.
Core won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:53.72 and the 500 free in 5:02.22, while Stozkovs won the 200 IM in 2:03.18 and the 100 free in 50.66, both personal best times.
Other individual winners were Palomarez in the 50 free (personal best 24.27), Natalee Stratton of Eastmark in diving (400.10), Naomi Weibel of Canyon Del Pro in the 100 fly (56.33) and Shea Oenning of Paradise Valley in the 100 back (57.85).

It had been a long drought for Catalina Foothills, but 11 years of frustration ended with its 14th title after it finished 16.5 points ahead of runner-up Salpointe Catholic.
The biggest reason Catalina Foothills won was senior Connor Daggett, who won the 50 free in a personal best time of 21.42 and swam anchor on two winning relay teams.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Nick Dinsmore, Mathew Murray, Ariston Elsesser and Daggett won in a time of 1:37.95.
The quartet of Dinsmore, Aidan Kastner, Elsesser and Daggett later won the 200 free relay in 1:27.99.
The 400 free relay was won by Canyon Del Oro’s team of Cooper Dale, Aiden Custer, Jacob Callahan and Luke Weibel in a time of 3:13.78.
Individually, the two standouts were Campo Verde junior Porter Ellsworth and Campo Verde senior Emmett Jones.
Ellsworth won the 200 IM in 1:51.78 and the 500 free in a personal best time of 4:33.48. Jones captured the 100 free in 46.55 and the 100 back in 50.73, both personal best times.
Other individual winners were Paradise Valley senior Nate Boyd in the 200 free (personal best 1:43.46), Campo Verde junior Gage Sprintz in diving (609.40), Cienega’s James Hess in the 100 fly (53.27) and Desert Mountain sophomore Roman Malcolm in the 100 breast (59.09).
