Greg McElroy sees separation in the Heisman Trophy Race ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Greg McElroy knows when the college football season hits November is when there starts to be some separation in terms of teams, as well as players in the award races.

During a segment on his ‘Always College Football’ podcast, McElroy talked about the Heisman Trophy race and how it is starting to narrow. McElroy sees Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin at the top of the race.

“Fernando Mendoza has now taken the lead at +160 to take home the coveted individual award in all of sports,” McElroy said. “What he just did on the road in Happy Valley is something they will be talking about forever. Julian Sayin is sitting there at +185 and he is continuing to play at a really high level. I think he has the best chance of probably winning because of the platform he is playing on.”

Medonza, Sayin, Ty Simpson and Marcel Reed are all legitimate candidates, and they are all also the starting quarterbacks for the top 4 teams in the country. There could be matchups of Mendoza and Sayin competing for a B1G Championship, as well as Reed and Simpson competing for an SEC title.

Finalists for the Heisman Trophy will be announced on Monday, Dec. 8.
