With Salt-N-Pepa welcomed into the coveted museum over the weekend, DJ Spinderella became the first female DJ to be inducted into the Rock Hall, Billboard confirms.
After a speech from Missy Elliott, the trio performed a medley of their classic hits, which included “Push It” and "Whatta Man."
“When I started, it was a rare thing to see a woman behind turntables. It was literally the boys club, so I had to carve my own lane," Spinderella, 54, said during her speech on Saturday. "I had to show up. It was dedication, it was my craft and I never missed a beat in 40 years y’all… I carry every female DJ who ever dared to dream. Every woman who touched a turntable and said, ‘I can do that too.’ This is ours. Respect the DJ.”
Also honored at this year's event was The White Stripes. Back in 2005, member Meg White admitted to Rolling Stone that she was a “reluctant rock star.”
