ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A minor accumulation of wet snow has already arrived west of Rochester. Communities such as Brockport, Spencerport, Albion and Batavia are seeing a slushy accumulation mainly on grassy surfaces. There will likely be more of the same across all of Western New York later tonight and Monday. As this time of the year the ground is still rather warm so most of the roadways should be running just wet, but caution is still advised on bridges and overpasses. Since this is the first snowfall of the year, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for Monday and Monday night.
Look for occasional snow showers and flurries for Monday. Most areas will see an inch or less of new snowfall during the day. It will be an unseasonably cold day with the temperature struggling to reach the mid-30s. Then as it turns colder late Monday and Monday night lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will be on the increase. New snowfall amounts could be in the range of two to four inches for locations north of the New York State Thruway with the greatest likelihood being Wayne County. The temperature will fall into the middle 20s for Monday night.
