How did Cocker revive his career?

Cocker went back on the British pub singing circuit but in 1968, as front man of the Grease Band, finally had a hit number one single in the UK with the cover version of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends.” Years later, Cocker’s rendition was used as the opening theme for the TV show The Wonder Years. His Grease Band toured the UK and U.S. and in 1969, he shot to fame with an unforgettable live performance of the song at the Woodstock Festival. Cocker modestly told Louder of the legendary concert, “Were we epic? I dunno…I was wearing a tie-dyed shirt, and when I took it off after, the colors had stained my chest in the exact same pattern.”

Perhaps Cocker’s most memorable song, “You Are So Beautiful,” hit big in 1975. The rocker then faced a career rough patch, but the song “Up Where We Belong,” a duet with Jennifer Warnes for the 1982 movie An Officer and a Gentleman, was a number one smash. Also, Cocker’s cover of Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” appeared in the 1986 film 9 ½ Weeks.

Was Cocker disabled?

No. Cocker’s bizarre shaky stage moves that looked like tremors weren’t a medical condition but stemmed from his emotional connection to the music. The singer claimed he couldn’t control his body once he was in the zone!

What was John Belushi’s memorable parody of Cocker?

Belushi did his hilarious impression of Cocker on several episodes of Saturday Night Live, singing and mimicking his convulsive stage moves. On an October 1976 episode of SNL, Belushi performed “Feelin’ Alright” alongside Cocker when he was the musical guest!

Did Cocker have money problems?

Cocker almost went bankrupt in the mid-70s because of mismanagement, the costs of touring, his own addictions, and lack of business sense. However, later on, his beloved wife Pam helped him get back on track and achieve financial security.

Cocker wasted thousands of dollars paying drug dealers for dope -- and he also binge drank, “going through alcoholic agonies. I was sick on stage.”

What was Cocker’s net worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Joe Cocker had a net worth of $60 million at the time of his death. The yearly income of Cocker's estate since his death is private, but it likely generates considerable revenue from his music catalogue.

As of late 2023, Cocker's former Mad Dog Ranch in Crawford, Colorado, was still for sale for $18 million. The lavish 316-acre property where he lived with Pam features a large English manor-style house, guest suites, extensive grounds, equestrian facilities, and a snooker table once owned by King Edward VII. The buyer would get the home, art, collectibles, and Cocker's piano.

How did Cocker die?

His agent Barrie Marshall said in a statement to the BBC, "He was without the doubt the greatest rock/soul voice ever to come out of Britain and remained the same man throughout his life. Hugely talented -- a true star -- but a kind and humble man who loved to perform. Anyone who ever saw him live will never forget him.”
