Europe’s largest printed housing complex completed in Denmark ...Middle East

The 3D-printing phase of Europe’s largest printed housing project, has been completed in Holstebro, west Denmark.

Called “Skovsporet” (the forest trail), the project comprises 36 student apartments ranging from 40-to-50-sq-m in six buildings, with a total printed area of 1,654 sq m.

The structures were printed by a three person team from Danish construction company 3DCP Group using Cobod’s Bod3 printers on behalf of affordable housing organisation NordVestBO. Denmark’s Saga Architects designed the project.

They used Bod3’s track system, which let the printer print long wall sections uninterrupted.

The printer extruded D.fab concrete with Futurecem, a low-carbon cement from Denmark’s Aalborg Portland.

Print beds were positioned between the site’s trees, helping preserve 95% of them.

Located close to the VIA University College’s Holstebro campus, each of the apartments will contain a kitchen, study area, lounge, bathroom and double bed.

The structures are designed for slanted ceilings with large roof windows for natural light.

The six buildings are arranged around a shared courtyard, with landscaped gardens, walking paths, and bicycle parking nearby.

Mikkel Brich, 3DCP Group’s cofounder, said: “Skovsporet proved that 3D construction printing can meet the strict requirements of subsidised housing while delivering high precision and productivity.

"As we deepened our understanding of the technology, we increased productivity from one building to the next, and are confident we can build even faster in future projects.“
