ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have died down and we’re just dealing with some passing lake rain showers this morning. Chances for rain should dry up by the afternoon, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s. Winds are more calm, with strongest gusts only around 20 MPH.
Wind picks back up tomorrow ahead of another front which will give us gusts up to 30 MPH and rain in the afternoon/evening. Saturday is cool and cloudy with calmer winds, then Sunday a low pressure system passes by, bringing us rain and our friends across the lake some snow… Going into Sunday night, cold air will wrap around the system, giving US our first chance for snow!
The higher elevations have the best chance to see flakes Sunday night. Rochester may get a mix. Monday however, a punch of cold Canadian air makes its way deep into the US, and we are likely to see at least some lake flakes as the wind comes out of the north… But Tuesday we have a much better chance to get lake effect snow off of Lake Ontario as the wind comes out of the northwest. Significant accumulations are not expected, but we are still a few days out and will have a better idea as to the timing and amounts in the coming days. Make sure to tune back in for updates on that.
Either way, it will be cold, with neither Monday or Tuesday getting past the 30s… A clipper system runs through Wednesday, giving us some rain and breezy winds.
