The dust has settled on the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, and Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles finished the day making just one (1) trade.
In case you missed it, Chicago’s deal with the Cleveland Browns for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is the only trade the Bears were able to push through at the NFL Trade Deadline. That’s it. No Jermaine Johnson II, Breece Hall, Bradley Chubb, Trey Hendrickson, or anyone else whose name was floated on the rumor mill. Just Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.
There were multiple reports about the team being “aggressive” and seeking help along the defensive line at the deadline. How aggressive GM Ryan Poles was will probably remain unknown for a bit. With that being said, I thought NFL on FOX insider Jay Glazer had some quality insight and perspective on the Bears ahead of the trade deadline:
Yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to land a big name player. There just aren’t those level of players being shopped unless it a huge haul and for some guys their deals are up after this year so that complicates things too. I don’t see anything splashy t.co/1OS3Vfq9XY
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) November 4, 2025Definitely have been along with Seattle, 49ers, Dallas and always Philly. But not a ton out there to move the needle prob without parting with significant picks. Need 2 to tango. Teams still use these last few hours to hope to shake something up t.co/C6Sx1IwIxQ
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) November 4, 2025Seeing those tweets before the NFL Trade Deadline adjusted my expectations going into the stretch run. Hence, I am not bothered by the lack of a splash move by Ryan Poles. It never made sense to make that kind of deal right now. Plus, the players you’d want to make in a splash deal likely weren’t on the market or available for a price that any sensible fan would sign off on.
TRACKING TRADES MADE BY RYAN POLES AND OTHER NFL GMs
The Bengals were asking for the moon and the stars for Trey Hendrickson, who sat out last week’s Bears game with an injury. And when it comes to Raiders star Maxx Crosby, Glazer relayed a message from the All-Pro that he didn’t want to leave Las Vegas. It takes two to tango, and the Bears didn’t have a partner. It happens.
How Would You Grade GM Ryan Poles at the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline?
In the end, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles and the front office accomplished their goal of adding defensive line help. It wasn’t a sexy move. And judging by the reactions from social media (the folks at Bears Wire rounded up a bevy of reactions) after Tuesday’s trade) it isn’t a popular one. However, it was necessary.
Bears GM Ryan Poles | Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-USA TODAY SportsShemar Turner and Dayo Odeyingbo were dealt season-ending injuries in each of the last two weaks. Meanwhile, Dominique Robinson is dealing with a high-ankle injury that will keep him out for a few more weeks. Chicago’s defense needed warm bodies to eat snaps. The cost of doing business to reel in that type of player was a Day 3 pick swap. It is a low-risk move where any positive return that Tryon-Shoyinka provides will be welcome with open arms. Judging by his production with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the fact that he has played on just 31 defensive snaps this season, I would adjust my expectations accodingly before he makes Joe Tryon-Shoyinka’s Bears debut.
Giving Bears GM Ryan Poles a letter grade after the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline would be a fool’s errand. However, I think it is understandable for fans to be underwhelmed and disappointed. Teams around the league have been active for weeks adding role players to round out rosters. And with chatter building around the Bears in recent days, I can see how easy it would be to feel let down when the only player joining this group is a pass-rusher whose résumé includes a note about being a first-round pick and not much more. But look on the brightside — at least Poles didn’t make a trade that mortgaged the future.
Now that the NFL Trade Deadline is over, we can turn our focus to a 5-3 team that has a winnable game coming up against the New York Giants. Waking up on Monday to a Bears team with a 6-3 record isn’t out of the realm of possibility. And rewatchng how the last game ended, I’m ready to see what this team has in store for an encore.
