Powernet was founded in Madrid in 1989 and has offices in Barcelona and A Coruña, specialising in designing, installing, maintaining and operating data centres, as well as providing services in communications, systems and network management.
The acquisition aims to improve Ferrovial’s design, development, operation and maintenance of data centres within its construction division.
José Gabriel Lao will move from Ferrovial to become the Managing Director of Powernet. Lao joined Ferrovial in 1997 as site manager and in 2008 and has worked in production, sales and business development in Ferrovial’s water management division.
Ferrovial has worked in the data centre market for 10 years, mostly developing projects for international clients in Spain.
In 2024 it created a Digital Infrastructure division to move from construction to development.
