Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mississippi Makos Swim Team’s Rachel McAlpin has committed to the University of Arkansas beginning in the fall of 2026.

McAlpin was featured in the “Best of the Rest” Section in SwimSwam’s rankings of the top 20 girls in the 2026 recruiting class.

I’m so happy to finally announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Arkansas!!! All the glory to God! He has given me amazing people in my life and love for the sport of swimming. Thank you to my MS Makos coaches, especially Coach Brian and Coach Eddie. Y’all have coached me all my life, and I wouldn’t be here without y’all. Thank you to my teammates and friends for cheering me on. Thank you to my family for supporting me! Finally thank you to the coaching staff at Arkansas for giving me this amazing opportunity! WOO PIG

McAlpin closed out her summer in golden fashion, winning the girls’ 50 breaststroke at the 2025 World Junior Swimming Championships (LCM). McAlpin clocked a lifetime best time of 30.78 to capture gold as the only competitor in the field to go sub-31.

The event proved to be one that treated the Brandon, Miss., native well this summer. Early in June, McAlpin finished 8th overall in the U.S. National Championships, clocking 31.34. She also notched a 29th-place finish in the 100 breast in 1:11.17. A few weeks later, McAlpin would win the 50 breast in Ocala at the Futures Championships, clocking 31.21.

One of McAlpin’s best short course showings came at the 2025 Mississippi SC Championships in February. There, she notched new best times in the 100 breast (1:01.19), 200 IM (2:11.00), 50 freestyle (24.89), 100 free (56.58), and 400 IM (4:49.03).

McAlpin also holds a best 200 breast time of 2:17.10, set just over a week ago at the 2025 Makos Fall invitational. McAlpin also boasts a 50 breast SCY best of 28.44 from January’s SE AUB Ralph Crocker Classic.

Best Times SCY:

50 Breast: 28.44 100 Breast: 1:01.19 200 Breast: 2:17.10 200 IM: 2:11.00 400 IM: 4:49.03

The Razorback women of Arkansas finished 12th at the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Based on McAlpin’s best times, she would have finished 30th in the 100 breast, 42nd in the 200 breast, and 64th in the 200 IM at those championships.

There is no denying the sprint breaststroke ability that McAlpin possesses. She is clearly one of the top breaststrokers in this class, but the biggest question mark is what she could contribute beyond those select events.

Her 200 breast will likely progress simply by training college-level breaststroke, but there will also be the wonder of what she’ll target as her #3 event.

McAlpin will likely become an immediate medley relay contender with her domestic and international success in her 50 breast.

McAlpin is joined by Hayden Gibson, Riley Gibson, Ellery Chandler, and Evelyn Jezerinac in the Razorback women’s 2026 recruiting class.
