Sandell, the Sooners’ junior kicker, doesn’t wear typical pants during games. They’re cut off high above the knee, on his thighs. During the first half of Oklahoma’s game against Tennessee, Herbstreit suggested Sandell should be penalized for sporting such short pants.
“He’s got his, like, short shorts on,” play-by-play broadcaster Chris Fowler said ahead of a long field goal try. “That’s no longer frowned upon.”
“I guess not. It is by me,” Herbstreit chuckled. “That should be a penalty… just dressing like that should be a penalty… [is he] wearing shorts out there?”

That’s good for a 93.3% field goal percentage, which tops the SEC. It’s just his first year in Norman, but he has rewritten Oklahoma’s kicking record book.
