PENN YAN, N.Y. — A former Yates County Correction Officer is facing charges after Yates County sheriff’s deputies say he was driving while intoxicated.
On Wednesday, deputies say corrections staff reported to correction supervisors that a correction officer seemed to be under the influence.
Deputies say after investigating, it was determined that Correction Officer Bruce Hamsen drank alcohol before his shift and then drove to work.
Hamsen was issued standardized field sobriety tests, and charged with driving while intoxicated, .08% or greater. He was issued traffic tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.
Deputies say Hamsen’s employment was immediately terminated.
