The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors, in their dual role as the board of directors for the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District, recently approved the hiring of a new Air Pollution Control Officer.
During the Board of Supervisors’ Oct. 21 meeting, Chairman and Third District Supervisor John Haschak convened the MCAQMD board and presented for their approval an “employment contract and appointment of Glen Stephens to serve as Air Pollution Control Officer for $140, 691.20 salary per year, with total compensation package of $239,175.04.”
“I look forward to your approval of this contract,” said Mendocino County CEO Darcie Antle. “We’ve been in need of an Air Pollution Control Officer for a couple of years now, so I’m really excited that we found an excellent candidate.”
When Stephens called in to address the board virtually, Haschak told him: “I think we’re all very impressed with your amount of expertise and experience in Air Quality Control issues, and we look forward to working with you.”
The board then voted unanimously to approve the contract with Stephens.
After his official hiring, county officials sent out a press release announcing “the appointment of Glen Stephens as the new Air Pollution Control Officer for the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District, effective Oct. 27, 2025.”
In explaining his background, the release described Stephens as bringing “more than 30 years of experience in air quality management and environmental protection. He has served as Air Pollution Control Officer for the Eastern Kern Air Pollution Control District since 2012, overseeing district operations, regulatory programs, and grant initiatives to meet state and federal air quality standards.”
“It’s an honor to join Mendocino County, and I look forward to serving its residents and communities,” Stephens was quoted as saying in the release.
Stephens was also described in the release as “working as an Air Quality Engineer for the Eastern Kern, San Joaquin Valley, and Kern County Air Pollution Control Districts, where he specialized in permitting, compliance, and rule development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University and is a California Licensed Professional Engineer.”
