The Indiana Pacers have pulled a fast one on the Chicago Bulls.
On the same day the organization officially named Mac McClung as part of its G League roster, the Indiana Pacers have reportedly pryed him away. ESPN’s Shams Charania announced that McClung will sign a multi-year contract with the defending Eastern Conference champion. The team has reportedly waived former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman in order to make room for McClung.
A three-time Slam Dunk champion, McClung was expected to suit up this season for the Windy City Bulls after spending the previous seasons with the Orlando Magic’s G League affiliate. Even though he signed that deal with Chicago and was named to the training camp roster, McClung is allowed to leave for a big league roster spot.

Mac McClung’s new contract with the Pacers marks his first full-time NBA deal. He has bounced around, signing 10-day hardship deals and two-way contracts since entering the league in 2021 out of Georgetown.
Despite his explosive leaping ability, McClung’s undersized frame and score-first game have largely worked against him. However, the guard has shown some serious growth in the G League over the last few years, even winning the G League MVP in 2024. Last season with the Magic, McClung averaged 25.7 points and 5.7 assists a night on 51.0 percent shooting from the field.
While losing McClung will make games at Hoffman Estates a little less exciting, his path to making a full-time roster spot in Chicago was murky. It’s hard to know if he will even be able to carve out much of a role in Indiana, but the team at least has a little more wiggle room in the backcourt with star Tyrese Haliburton sidelined for the entire season.
