When traveling and staying in hotels, there are many important things that you need to keep track of and stored in a safe place. If you’ve ever been on a trip and misplaced your phone, wallet or important travel documents–you know just how stressful that can be. Vacations should be anything but stressful, and I want to help you be as safe and prepared as possible for your next trip.

Your passport. That is something you most definitely don’t want to lose track of, so you’re going to want to make sure you keep it in the safest place possible.
Don’t Just Store Your Passport In The Hotel Safe
Most people would think that the safest place for your passport to be stored when on a trip is right in your hotel safe. Nothing can happen to it from there, nobody else can access it, and you won’t risk accidentally misplacing it during your stay. The one caveat to that, however, is what if you forget that you placed your passport in the safe, and leave the hotel without it? That would be an absolute disaster–and I’m going to make sure that never happens to you.

If you’re the type of person who never leaves a room without your phone, placing it in the safe is a great idea. However, you may not want to have to go in and out of the safe every single time you need your phone. I personally like the idea of placing a single shoe in there. That way, when you pack up to leave, you’ll notice that one shoe is missing and remember that it’s in the safe with your passport. You could also place something else in there like your headphones, glasses, or watch. Anything that will alert you that you’re missing something important will make this hack work beautifully.
Other Key Tips For Utilizing The Hotel Safe
Hotel safes are there for a reason–to protect valuable items that you don’t want to get lost. Many people don’t utilize the safes in the hotel, and I definitely recommend that you do so. Beyond just storing your passport, I have a few other things that I recommend keeping in the safe.

Lastly, I highly recommend adding a packing checklist into the notes on your phone. I create this checklist with everything that I’ve packed for my trip, that way I can easily refer to it to make sure that I have everything whenever I leave a hotel or location. I like to separate it into categories, like the contents in my purse, carry-on, main luggage, or personal item. This helps to not only keep me very organized while traveling, but provides peace of mind as well. Then, when you check the list, anything that was placed in the safe will come up, and you'll remember to go in and remove the contents before you leave.
