Revisiting Bears-Ravens History, Injury Report Watch, Rivals Roughed Up on TNF, and Other Friday Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

I have a laundry list of things I need to get done before my friend’s birthday party on Saturday. First up: Friday’s BN Bears Bullets.

The last time the Bears played the Ravens in Baltimore, the team received touchdown passes from rookies Mitchell Trubisky and Tarik Cohen in an overtime win. I remember that game well because it was the first time John Harbaugh had lost to a rookie quarterback. The Ravens were 8-0 under Harbaugh against rookie signal callers before Trubisky put a blemish on that record. I also remember that game fondly because I got a good laugh out of a running back throwing their first NFL TD pass before his QB teammate could toss his first. You really can’t script football.

I say write all of that above to say this here: Just because the Bears are underdogs, it doesn’t mean that they have no shot at winning this game. My mother always used to tell me: “Every dog has its day, but every good one has two.” Tight End Dion Sims #88 of the Chicago Bears scores a touchdown in the third quarter against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on October 15, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland. (Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images) If the Bears are going to spring an upset, it has to begin in the trenches. It probably starts on the defensive side of the ball and figuiring out how to stop Baltimore’s backfield tandem of quarterback Lamar Jackson (presuming he is healthy enough to play) and running back Derrick Henry. Marquee’s Nicholas Moreano dives into Chicago’s plan to slow down what can be a prolific ground game. For what it’s worth, the Bears defense has played well against the run over the last two weeks. Slowing down a Commanders ground game on Monday Night Football was eye-opening. And keeping Alvin Kamara and the Saints under wraps a week later was encouraging. Doing it against Derrick Henry, who runs like if you put a football jersey on a Mack truck, is a different challenge. The Bears might need a renacment of this image from Sunday Night Football a few years ago: Andrew Billings #97 of the Chicago Bears makes a tackle against Austin Ekeler #30 of the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on October 29, 2023 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images) Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen was feeling the love this week after the team’s big win:

“It’s why you coach,” Allen said, via the Bears’ official website. “You coach for the locker room. You play, and you have that bond and that camaraderie within the locker room and then coach to coach, that’s all you get, is that feeling in the locker room. It’s exciting.

“It feels great to be a part of a group that really appreciates what you’re doing and believes in what you’re telling them. To see that and to see that belief come to life and to see those guys have the success that they’re having is really gratifying to me as a coach.”

Imagine how much love he will feel if the Bears can pull off an upset road win against the Ravens on Sunday. Friday’s injury report will ultimately give me a better feel for how I’ll think about this game. Seeing two more defensive starters added to Thursday’s injury report fills me with concern. OK, which one of you ponied up $548,100 at an auction to buy a rare Red Grange Chicago Beas jersey? (Tribune) Patrick Finley (Sun-Times) shares body-cam footage via TMZ of Jay Cutler’s 2024 arrest. The former Bears quarterback was charged with DUI, gun possession while intoxicated. I thought these four screen shots captured the Vikings’ vibe from their loss to the Chargers on Thursday Night Football:

— Bleacher Nation Bears (@bn-bears.bsky.social) October 24, 2025 at 9:10 AM Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz posted this woeful line on TNF: 15/27, 144 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 67.5 passer rating. Wentz was sacked five times and hit on eight more occasions. Are you sure that Minnesota isn’t using Wentz as a sacrificial lamb while J.J. McCarthy learns from the sideline? Because that is the vibe that this situation continues to give off. You’re really telling me that it is OK for Aaron Jones to play after coming off the minimum IR stay on a short week, but J.J. McCarthy — who didn’t need an IR stint and has been sidelined longer — isn’t ready? I suppose that could be the case, but I find it hard to believe. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wonders if the NFL has a gambling scandal that was already covered up? I think American sports fans have earned the right to be skeptical about things being on the up-and-up, so I don’t necessarily blame Florio (or anyone, for that matter) raising an eyebrow in these unprecedented times. During my time browsing the internet in search of Bears podcasts to listen to during wind-down time, I came across Dan Bernstein’s new venture. And while it was informative and entertaining, this stuck with me:

Dan’s story about watching and enjoying sports hit home because I experienced that in the summer of 2023. After months of not feeling anything and living in a constant state of ennui that was rooted in existentialism, I remember going to an August Cubs game against the Reds, watching the home team lose at Wrigley Field, and leaving the park thinking “I’m feeling something for the first time in months.” The way I see it, it was a reminder that watching sports is supposed to be fun. Banter between fans is supposed to be fun. In the end, we shouldn’t take life (or sports) too seriously becausse we’ll never make it out alive.
