Believe it or not, Michael Jordan does get nervous.
Returning to NBC as part of the network’s highly anticipated return this week, the GOAT unveiled a new mini-series titled “MJ: Insights to Excellence.” Parts of the sit-down interview with Mike Tirico will be shared throughout the NBA’s 2025-26 season, and the first snippet aired during the NBA’s opening night celebration did not disappoint.
Before waxing poetic about how much the game still means to him, Jordan revealed some shocking news. The legendary hooper told Tirico that it had been years since he last laced up his sneakers and took to the court. Stunned by his response, Tirico pushed back and pressed for the last time Jordan picked up a ball. His Airness proceeded to recall a recent story from the Ryder Cup this summer.
As Jordan told it, he rented a house for the event and had the owner come over for a meet and greet with his grandkids. The owner asked for the Hall of Famer to take a free throw on the estate’s basketball court, and Jordan said he had not been that nervous in years.
“The reason being, those kids heard the stories from their parents about what I did 30 years ago. So their expectation is 30 years prior, and I haven’t touched a basketball,” Jordan said.
Tirico asked whether Jordan swished it, and he responded with an expected, “absolutely.” While the outcome isn’t hard to believe, we can’t say the same about the ever-confident Jordan feeling his heart pounding in that moment … until now!

On Thursday morning, the clip of Michael Jordan draining the free throw surfaced on social media.
User Adam Gilbert posted it on the app formerly known as Twitter, and there you can see Jordan approaching a free-throw line with two kids trailing behind him.
“It’s been a while,” Jordan said before he stalled with some basketball history about the lines on the court. “Lord, have mercy. Please make this.”
And, just as Jordan said, swish. You can immediately see the relief on his face as he lets out a massive smile. I’ve already watched the video 10 different times. What an awesome moment.
