Long-time Florida head baseball coach is taking a leave of absence from the program to address personal and family issues.
The Gators are currently in fall practice. Chuck Jeroloman will lead the team during O’Sullivan’s absence.
“I appreciate the support of the University and athletic department,” O’Sullivan said in a released statement. “I have some personal and family issues that need my full attention at this time.”
“Coach O’Sullivan has our full support as he takes the time he needs to focus on personal matters,” athletic director Scott Stricklin added in the program release. “We appreciate his openness in communicating this decision, and respect his need for privacy.”
O’Sullivan, 56, has been Florida’s head coach since 2008. Last season, Florida posted a 39-22 record, improving O’Sullivan’s overall mark to 756-371. Under O’Sullivan, Florida has won one College World Series (2017), 9 NCAA Super Regionals and 10 NCAA Regionals. O’Sullivan has also led UF to 6 regular-season SEC titles and 2 conference tournament championships.
In August, the program announced that O’Sullivan will serve a suspension for the first 3 games of the regular season for his conduct at the NCAA Regional in Conway, South Carolina, this past June.
