Six women will be honored during an annual gala and fundraiser for Weld County’s only domestic violence safehouse Saturday evening at Aims Community College in Greeley.

A Woman’s Place, a nonprofit providing free and confidential services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, will host the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Aims’ Welcome Center on the Greeley campus. The honorees this year are Lynn Bassett, Celeste Ewert, Pam Hungenberg, Carlene Irion, Madeline Milian and Terri Pappas.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nearly 3 in 10 women and 1 in 10 men in the U.S. have experienced rape, physical violence or stalking by a partner and reported it impacting their functioning, according to statistics from the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

The gala to benefit A Woman’s Place celebrates women who have been leaders and contributors in the Greeley area. The event, now in its 32nd year, is put on by an all-volunteer auxiliary board called the Friends of A Woman’s Place.

The gala is open to any residents who wish to attend, with tickets priced at $33.85 a person. To purchase tickets, go to bit.ly/AWPGalaTickets.
