Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

McKenzie Vasquez from Rogers, Arkansas, has verbally committed to swim and study at Texas A&M University in the class of 2031. She confirmed in writing to SwimSwam:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Texas A&M University! I want to thank God, my family, Coach Mo, Coach John, Coach Jim, and all my teammates/ friends for their constant support and belief in me throughout this journey. I couldn’t have done it without you guys! I’m so grateful for Coach Blaire and everyone at A&M for this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of such a wonderful program! Gig ‘Em!”

Vasquez is a junior at Providence Academy. She swims year-round with Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs and specializes in distance freestyle and IM. We considered her one of the “Best of the Rest” on our Way Too Early list of top girls’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2027.

Vasquez had a remarkable short-course season that saw her chipping away, little by little, at her times across the board. She opened with a pair of PBs in the 100 breast (1:08.14) and 200 IM (2:05.33) in October. In November, it was the 100 back (1:00.14), 200 back (2:07.44), 100 fly (58.14), and 200 fly (2:07.24) at TYR Super Finals. Three weeks later, she lowered her 100 breast and 200 IM times to 1:05.81 and 2:04.29 and added new PBs in the 200 free (1:52.01), 500 free (4:57.30), and 200 breast (2:22.14).

At the beginning of December, Vasquez competed at Magnolia Aquatic Club’s Holiday Invitational. There, she won all 5 events she entered and improved her times in the 200 free (1:50.68), 500 free (4:56.96), 1000 free (10:08.58), 50 breast (31.17), 100 breast (1:05.80), and 400 IM (4:18.92). A week later, she was at Winter Juniors West, where she hit PBs of 1:49.19 in the 200 free and 2:20.91 in the 200 breast.

But her improvement curve was far from over. At the King Marlin Swim Club Winter Invite in January, she dropped time in the 100 free (52.10), 1650 free (17:14.60), 100 back (58.39), 100 fly (57.60), and 200 fly (2:06.52). February saw new PBs in the mile (16:53.21, that’s a drop of 21.4 seconds), 50 back (27.84), 200 breast (2:20.12), and 200 IM (2:04.15).

At Columbia Sectionals, she took her 200 free time down to 1:49.16 and placed 3rd. She also made strides in the 500 free (4:49.76, 2nd place), 1000 free (9:55.90, -12.6 seconds, 1st place), 1650 free (16:37.95, -15.2 seconds, 2nd place), 200 IM (2:02.24, -1.9 seconds, 3rd place), and 400 IM (4:17.79, -1.1 seconds, 3rd place).

Long-course season went the same way, with little drops here and there that added up to big drops by the end of the summer. She finished with Summer Juniors cuts in the 800/1500 free and 200 IM and a Winter Juniors cut in the 400 free.

Best SCY times:

200 free – 1:49.16 500 free – 4:49.76 1000 free – 9:55.90 1650 free – 16:37.95 200 IM – 2:02.24 400 IM – 4:17.79

Vasquez will join Emma Liebler, Summer Mudadu, and Maria Champion in the Aggies’ class of 2031.
