China spy suspect ‘stopped with suitcase of cash’ at Heathrow airport ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

One of the two men suspected of spying for the Chinese government was stopped at Heathrow airport with a suitcase of cash, it has been reported.

Christopher Berry, 33, an academic from Witney, Oxfordshire, was intercepted carrying £4,000 at the airport in February 2023, six weeks before he was formally arrested.

According to The Sunday Times, the money was given to him by his alleged Chinese agent, but the currency or whether it was kept by the police is unclear.

The cases against Berry and Chris Cash, also accused of spying for China, collapsed last month.

On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said: “A man in his thirties was subject to a stop at Heathrow airport on 2 February 2023 under Schedule 3 of the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019. He was not arrested and inquiries continued.”

Government launches plans to ‘train next generation of energy workers’

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the new plan places Scotland “at the very heart of the clean energy revolution”.

Across the UK, it expects employment to double to 860,000 by the end of the decade, including nuclear energy.

As part of the transition, the Scottish Government said on Sunday it would jointly invest £18 million with the UK Government to enable thousands of North Sea workers to access tailored support to make the change to more sustainable energy.

“Thanks to this Government’s commitment to clean energy a generation of young people in Scotland can have well-paid secure jobs, from plumbers to electricians and welders.”
