The Blackhawks checked pretty much every box possible for the obligatory have-to-whine-about-something department in the first period:
Blackhawks won 54% at the dot Blackhawks were 1 for 2 on the power play Blackhawks out-shot the Canucks 15-11 Blackhawks scored a goal — and didn’t give one up quickly after Blackhawks scored a goal inside the final minute of the period — not their opponentPredictably, the Canucks came out with better energy to start the second period. And the whistles started going their way, too. Jake DeBrusk got Vancouver on the board less than seven minutes into the second period with a power play goal. The Canucks tied the game with 6:17 left in the second period. The score remained tied thru 40 minutes.
Even with the Canucks having both goals in the period, the Blackhawks were still doing a lot of nice things. The Hawks out-shot the Canucks 10-4 in the second. They were winning 55 percent of the faceoffs thru 40 minutes. Two power plays in the first seven minutes of the period opened the door for the Canucks.
With 5:12 left in regulation, Tyler Bertuzzi put what appeared to be a loose puck into the net. The official immediately waived it off and said he pushed a controlled puck into the net? Yeah… video didn’t agree. After a commercial break, the Blackhawks challenged the call — a huge call in a tie game with that little time left on the clock. The Blackhawks lost the challenge and had to go short handed, and they were successful in killing the penalty.
Brock Boeser won it in the shootout.
Star 1: Tyle Bertuzzi
Kiefer Sherwood — the guy who said the Canucks were going to make Dickinson pay for his hit on Filip Chytil in March — took a couple whacks at Bertuzzi and then jumped him in the middle of the first period. Both guys got a minor penalty on the play, even though Sherwood instigated the pleasantries. Well, Betuzzi came back and got a goal inside the final minute of the period just to remind the Canucks that puck don’t lie. In the first period, Bertuzzi had a Corsi For of 81.82 percent and an expected Goals For percentage of 94.49.
Bertuzzi’s xGF% actually went up to 94.95 by the end of the second period. He also led the Blackhawks with five shots on net and won 5 of 7 faceoffs by the end of two periods.

I wanted to see a more complete game from Rinzel. He’s had some good moments, but hasn’t put together a smooth, dominant game like he did a few times late last year. We got that tonight.
Rinzel had the only assist on Bertuzzi’s goal in the first period to punctuate a really good period for him. He was on the ice (5-on-5) for 4:39, during which the Blackhawks had a 13-3 shot attempt advantage. Rinzel had a 95.68 xGF% and was on the ice for seven Blackhawks’ shots on goal at even strength; the Hawks had 15 total in the opening 20 minutes. While Rinzel was on the ice at even strength, the Blackhawks had a 9-0 scoring chances for advantage and 7-0 high danger chances advantage in the first period. His numbers stayed strong thru the second period; he had an 87.98 xGF% after 40 minutes.
Star 3: Ryan Donato
The Blackhawks’ third line was good again tonight, but I’m going to single out Donato because he scored a power play goal in the first period.

With a target on his back from the jump because of his hit on Filip Chytil , Jason Dickinson was an absolute beast tonight. He was on the ice for almost the entire penalty kill late in the third period. He won 15 of 24 faceoffs in regulation. I am completely here for Blashill challenging the call in the third period. Shows he has confidence in his guys. Don’t agree with the initial call or that it stood. Knight was terrific, especially in the third period and overtime. He stopped 29 of 31 in the game. I think the Blackhawks have a real one in net, folks. He’s a dog. Darren Pang reported during the first period that the Canucks’ bench was chirping Jason Dickinson a lot during the first period. They didn’t fight him. They just ran their mouths — and allowed two goals. I liked a lot of what I saw from Artyom Levshunov again tonight. He battled with some bigger veteran forwards (including Evander Kane) and held his own. The Blackhawks had a moment in the third period where Louis Crevier got a breakaway just as Lukas Reichel was coming out of the penalty box… if he had scored, the roof might have blown off the United Center. The fans in the United Center had good reason to be upset when Connor Bedard was called for holding with 2:04 left in regulation. That was a soft call. Reichel was on the ice in the final minute of overtime and got completely undressed by Elias Pettersson. Thank God Knight bailed him out. That was a potential disaster. Not a fan of Reichel being on the ice against Pettersson in the final minute of OT at all.Hence then, the article about blackhawks 2 canucks 3 so three stars key takeaways was published today ( ) and is available on Bleacher Nation ( Middle East ) The editorial team at PressBee has edited and verified it, and it may have been modified, fully republished, or quoted.
