So not only does Pearson get a guaranteed big league deal, he gets an opportunity to move back into starting (something that was speculated about with the Cubs, but never came to fruition).

I say good for him. Full-fledged free agency won’t open up until after the World Series, but his unique situation meant Pearson could jump a bit and market his services in advance of that. Seems like he found an extremely strong deal, all things considered, and with an organization known for helping pitchers turn it around.

In total with the Cubs, the 29-year-old righty threw 41.0 innings of 5.05 ERA ball. I’ll say it again: it was easy to see the upside every time he pitched, but the control/command was just never close to where it needed to be to take advantage of the stuff.
