There’s always something new to discover, which reflects how the characters are learning about one another after so many years of being apart. What Happens Later is a rom-com with two lovers who have their share of past regrets but still have enough optimism left to be open to rekindled love.

‘Underwater’ (2020)
After their underwater research facility is destroyed by an earthquake, Norah (Kristen Stewart) and her colleagues are forced to escape to a nearby control base. But their problems only multiply when they discover that the surviving crew has no way of reaching the surface. Even worse is the appearance of a mysterious creature, which begins to kill them one by one. With their air running out and the ocean’s water pressure threatening to crush them, can Norah and the rest of the survivors make it out alive?
Underwater is an effective hybrid of The Abyss and Alien, using a somewhat realistic setup and incorporating a slimy creature with jaws into its sci-fi thriller narrative. While it doesn’t break new ground in the genre, it breathes new life into it through its use of striking visuals and solid acting. A casualty of the 2020 pandemic, Underwater is too good a movie to be ignored.

‘Joy Ride’ (2001)
Paul Walker is famous for driving fast cars and striking up a lasting bromance with Vin Diesel in the Fast and the Furious franchise, but one of his best movies also involves an out-of-control automobile with a lethal drift. In Joy Ride, Walker plays Lewis, who is traveling to Colorado with his slacker brother, Fuller (Steve Zahn), to pick up Venna (Leelee Sobieski). To amuse themselves, Lewis and Fuller play a prank on a truck driver named Rusty Nail by posing as a woman and setting up a rendezvous at a nearby hotel.

Directed by ’90s suspense master John Dahl, Joy Ride is a surprisingly tense and terrific thriller, one that’s just as good as the more famous Duel and Breakdown with Kurt Russell. Walker and Zahn are believable as siblings who bond over making mischief, which causes them all sorts of trouble. The cat-and-mouse game the brothers play with Rusty Nail is always captivating, and the ending is surprisingly haunting and open-ended.
