ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Members of the Jewish community gathered at Temple Beth El on Winton Road to pay tribute to the victims of the Hamas attack on Israel, two years after the conflict began on Oct. 7. They joined in prayer, shared stories, and eulogized those lost.
The recent release of hostages brought a newfound wave of hope and emotion for the community, organizers said.
“You can’t help but smile when you see them and at the same time be torn apart inside for those whose loved ones did not get to come home,” said Monica Gebell, director of the Levine Center to End Hate.
“So we’re trying to hold all of that together, close that chapter together, and look at new beginnings,” Gebell said.
The bodies of 19 hostages have still not been returned to Israel. Israel and Hamas continue to work out the details of President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for a ceasefire in the region.
