Oct. 11, 2025 Columbia, SC SCY (25 yards) Results: Girls; BoysIt was a repeat for the St. Joseph Catholic girls team and a return to the top for the first time in 12 years by the Academic Magnet boys team at the South Carolina High School League 3A state championship meet.

St. Joseph’s Catholic easily won its second straight title, and what’s even worse for opponents is that it was led by a core of sophomores that will likely make the program even harder to beat in the next two years.
St. Joseph’s was led by sophomore Odette Brown, who won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:06.26 and the 100 free (52.37). She was also part of two winning relay teams.
Brown first swam the second leg for St. Joseph’s 200 medley relay team that won in 1:49.46. Other team members were junior Bella Stewart, sophomore Sutton Alexander and sophomore Rachel Overton.
Brown later swam anchor for the 400 free relay team that won in a time of 3:40.24. Overton, senior Riley Reed and Stewart were other team members.
In addition to helping on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams, Overton won the 50 free in a personal best time of 24.70.
Alexander won the 100 fly in 59.66 and also swam the third leg of St. Joseph’s winning team in the 200 free relay, which won in a time of 1:43.46. Sophomore Catherine Lynn, junior Addie Wireman and Reed were the other team members.
There was a notable individual performance from someone not on St. Joseph’s, as Southside Christian senior Grace Hunt set a new state record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.63. She broke the old record of 1:03.07 set in 2016 by Sydney Baker.
Another individual standout was Eva Lyle of Brashier Middle College, who won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:54.44 and the 500 free in a personal best time of 5:08.24.

Academic Magnet won its third state championship overall and its first since winning the second of consecutive titles back in 2013.
Leading Academic Magnet to the team title were senior Parker Hamilton and freshman Logan Patterson. Hamilton won the 100 free in 46.67, while Patterson swam a personal best time of 52.24 to win the 100 back.
The individual star of the meet was Greer Middle College senior Jimmy Beeson, a BYU commit.
Beeson won the 50 free (20.47) and the 100 fly (48.20), and was a part of two winning relay teams.
Beeson first swam leadoff for Greer’s winning 200 medley relay team, which won in 1:33.63. Maddex Ternes, Quinn Anderson and Wim Clay were the other team members.
Beeson also swam leadoff for Greer’s squad that won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:12.91. Anderson, Clay and Ternes were also on that team.
Greer also won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:31.55 behind the team of Ternes, Kanius Williams, Andy Velez and Lucas Goughneour.
Another individual with a strong performance was Mid Carolina junior Grant Smith, who won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:40.15 and the 500 free in 4:43.82.
Other individual winners were Walker Simpson of St. Joseph’s Catholic in the 200 free (1:54.28) and Southside Christian senior Owen Harmon — a South Carolina commit — in the 100 breast with a personal best time of 55.79.
